Wu Ji (The Promise) (2005) (HK/China)

Of all the Chinese films, I think this is the one that I anticipate the most ...

Director: Chen Kaige
Cast: Jang Dong Kun, Hiroyuki Sanada, Cecilia Cheung, Nicholas Tse, Liu Ye, Chen Hong

The tagline is "3,000 years ago in the future ..."

Synopsis ... about a slave (Jang), a princess (Cheung), a duke (Tse) and a general (Sanada) who clash, driven by intense passions and their search for true love.

Now that's scary, the last thing we need is for posts to disappear again.

All I wanted to know was why you were so enthusiastic about this film?

I haven't been that impressed with the last couple of Chen Kaige films I've seen.

Cheers Trev.

It seems likely that this film will be the submission for Oscar 2006 ...

The official website (in Chinese) has been launched, though it still does not have any trailers yet.
see
www.thepromise.sina.com.cn/

For the flash, the words in Chinese (after the film title) read ...

... Destiny/Fate
... Love
... Freedom
... They always get what they want
... But they do not have freedom
... They dare to hate but not to love
... But they can't help loving each other
... Love, can it change destiny/fate ...

oh no ... I can't believe this latest news ...

What's in a name?

I would say A LOT!!!

The Weinstein Company has CHANGED the international English title of Chen Kaige's "The Promise" to "Master of the Crimson Armor" for the american audience ... oh no!!!

The essence/mystery/poetic feel/conciseness in the original title has been totally lost ... sigh ...

Can someone please kindly write to them to appeal ...?
