Don't ge me wrong, I just couldn't see all this American actors being English. Gillian Anderson was great this is why I liked the movie so much .I didn't know she had it in her. Was she suppose to be English? because she started out sounding English and lost her accent along the way . Oveall her acting was better than I thought it would be.

"House of Mirth" is set in New York in the early part of the 20th century. Everyone was an American...I think Gillian Anderson just had a very stiff and formal way of speaking that may have mad her sound English to you...by the way I thought it was a very good movie.

I thoroughly enjoyed this adaptation of Edith Wharton's classic novel. Beautifully done, heart-breaking, well-written, and in my opinion, Gillian Anderson did a superb job in her role. The script is first-rate, and the entire cast was convincing in their roles. Enjoyed it much more than The Age of Innocence by Scorcese.
