Mission Impossible III (2006)

Director: J.J. Abrams
Cast: Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Keri Russell, Philip Seymour Hoffman ....

My thoughts ...

- There are some things I like about the film

(i) The stunts in Shanghai performed by Tom Cruise ... wow ... I guess he does not have a body double ... does he?! ... although the images are sometimes too fast (for real appreciation) ... nonetheless, a laudable effort ...

(ii) The beautiful scenery in some of the overseas location ... for example, the speed boat scene (when they escaped) ... there is not much action here, but the backdrop just looks nice ....

(iii) Despite it being used in every episode, I still like the theme music ...

- What could be better ...

(i) The plot is not very convincing (or rather ... a feeling of having a twist for twist sake ...) ... and because of that, the characterization ...

(ii) Somehow, I still think the first one has the best "wit" ...
whereas the second one is very "John Woo" style ...
while this third one is full of "action" ...

Conclusion
- If you like lots of bombs (and action), go for it!
For a commercial film, I think it has achieved its mission ...

well, there are many possible reasons ...
e.g., as a socializing activity (i.e., watch with friends); and some of them find "artsy" films too boring/slow/etc ...
e.g., sometimes, i need a break too ... ha ha ha
e.g., sometimes, i just want to know what the hype is all abt ...
e.g., sometimes, u want to know what the teens are watching ... so as to be connected with them ... hee hee

Anasazie, you may be a teen but you're hardly typical are you?

In fact I'd say you're A-typical...............

As to the film, one of my sons will be seeing it today so I'll have to get his opinion.

Cheers Trev.

Hmm, I don't know if I'll watch this. I liked MI: I very much when I saw it in 96, and I also enjoyed the 80s TV series as a kid. Yet the second installment already seemed too commercial to me, and i have a feeling that the third is only there to showcase Tom Cruise' ego. I wonder why else Fincher and Carnahan abandoned the project.
Maybe if somebody can find some positive words about it?
I think I'll check out Filmfreakcentral to read the (probably 0 stars) review of Walter Chaw.

Well, I watched becos the ratings in rottentomatoes (with critics) and imdb (with mainstream audience) gave it good reviews.

More imptly, there are some critics (in rottentomatoes) who claimed that it was the best among the three franchise ...

That wouldn't be hard now would it?

Trev............you make it sound like a bad thing that i'm not into those films. Anyway, the teen tag will be gone in weeks.

Trev............you make it sound like a bad thing that i'm not into those films. Really?

No I'd say your taste and knowlege in foreign films is definitely A-typical for someone your age, most might know of Hero, Night Watch or Oldboy but they would probably think Fellini was some sort of sex act..........

Cheers Trev.
