Sounds great, John. I wouldn't be online if were you.

The Iosseliani set came out here also (Facets). Haven't gotten to it yet.

Mughal-e-Azam was recently released in color. I was fortunate enough to catch a theatrical screening a couple of months ago. It looked great. Is that the one you bought?

I presume so; Asif's 1960 film (not seen yet). I also tried to order Pakeezah, very lush musical which i think is great but for some reason it said they couldn't ship to my address. Guess they can to anyone in US/ N.America.

Oh yes and Hara-kiri (Kobayashi) was on my order too.

Most wanted now:

Travelling Players
Satantango
Jeanne Dielman
I was Born But
Floating Clouds (Naruse)
Hypothesis of the Stolen Painting
Street Angel (Yuan Mushi)
Spring in a Small Town (Fei Mu)
The Executioner (Berlanga)- highly rated in Spain
Pyaasa (Dutt)
An Italian Straw Hat (Clair)

a few of these i need to check availability on. If any known, i'd be grateful!

I'm going to guess that New Yorker (U.S.) will eventually release the Angelopoulos and the Akerman. Artificial Eye (U.K.) will certainly be releasing a few from the Greek master in 2006. They'll also put out Satantango.

Naruse's retro is travelling N. America so that's a good sign for the future.

I think we went over a few others, including the Berlanga, before. No much has changed, as far as I know.

A definite case of the "who you know" being more important than the "what you know" -

Beijing Bicycle
The Wages of Fear
The Circle
Merci Pour le Chocolat
Bus 174

All for less than 20.00.

Cheers Trev.

Chronicle of Anna Magdalena Bach (Straub, Huillet)- Amazon
+ 6 from yesasia:
Everlasting Regret (Kwan)
Sopyonje (Im)- quite recent release
Oasis (Lee Chang-Dong)
The Only Son (Ozu)
Nobody Knows (Kore-eda)
The Wayward Cloud (Tsai)

looks like i could be doing some serious catching up on Asian cinema this year!
There's a box set of 4 films by Mizoguchi and Kinugasa from what i could make out at yesasia but couldn't gather which! Still so little Mizo! And didn't seem to be anything by his contemporaries Naruse or Shimizu who i'd love to get to know properly. Ozu now well served, after his centenary.
