The Sky Crawlers (2008) (Japan)

I have just watched it.

The selling point: Oshii Mamoru is the director of Ghost in the Shell 1 & 2.

This film is definitely going to receive mixed reviews.

There are several things I like
... a few scenes of subtlety
... the really melancholic atmosphere
... and the haunting soundtrack
... and the philosophical take on life ...
... and THE ENDING ...

Then why is it "trying" (and I am not sure it will please the taste of average movie goers)
... well, the pace is not fast, it is all about atmosphere (as most of the scenes look hazy, grey and grainy ...) and you dont really miss out much in terms of story ... you are not exactly propelled to know what will happen next ... despite the many aircrafts fight ... but by the end, most audience will feel the tinge of melancholy ...
