Brilliant experimental animator.

Oskar Fischinger: Composition in Blue (1935)

his Motion Painting is a favourite of Stan Brakhage. Len Lye and Norman McLaren did similarly themed colourful abstract animation, and it follows on from Symphonie Diagonale (Eggeling, 1924) and all the avant-garde experiments in the 20's, including by painters like Lger (Ballet Mcanique)

Saw Motion Painting No 1 a couple of days ago. Absolutely loved it!

Have been lucky to see a package of experimental films and want to write about them in more detail once I can manage some time.

Hope everyone is fine!

Cheers,

M

I know I have some of his work on an old Videotape somewhere. If I could only find it...
Do you happen to know if he also made some black & white films? In my mind I often confuse his stuff with some films by Hans Richter...
