There are a few French blockbusters that haven't made it to U.S. theatres (yet). They are
"Asterix and Obelix vs. Caesar"- The non-animated version has France's cartoon hero (Christian Clavier) and his husky sidekick (Gérard Dépardieu, seriously) battle against Caesar's (Roberto Benigni) campaign to invade Gaul. Directed by Claude Zidi.
"Taxi", "Taxi 2", and the upcoming "Taxi 3"- the Luc Besson-produced trilogy has a pizza guy-turned-cabbie from Marseille that is known for speeding through the city. After he got a citation, he teams up with a bumbling dectective from Paris. Together they have to speed through Paris to nab the villains. Directed by Gérard Kawczyk.
"Wasabi"- another Besson/Kawczyk film, starring Jean Reno. Reno goes to Japan and teams up with a local woman and a fellow Frenchman (who looks a little like Serge Gainsbourg). I don't know the rest of the synopsis. The website is www.wasabi-lefilm.com.
