Akira Kurosawa dvd transfers

Postby escapekiken » Fri Apr 19, 2002 5:48 am

Hello,

I've been reading some of the reviews of the Akira Kurosawa DVDs on amazon.com and some reviewers noted that the quality of the transfers were not very well done by Criterion Collection or Fox Lober. Does anyone know if the import releases are any better? Does anyone think better transfers will be released?

I have yet to find a better transfer than Criterion, which uses a better 'original' print than Fox Lorber. Most of Kurosawa's releases are of his older work as of now. If you think the price is worth it buy Criterion, but like you I can't find anything better, or worse. Overall the transfers are (my opinion) B's to B+'s. I can't see anything better coming out in the future. So.....is the price worth it? Hope this helps.
