ANYONE SEEN CHARACTER?

Has anyone seen the 1990's Dutch film "Character?" It sounds like a thriller. I am thinking about buying it because of my family's scandanavian heritage, but it did not play where I live and I do not know anything about it. I know you don't know me, but I generally like foreign films, "Europa, Europa" and " All the mornings of the world" being two of my favorites.

I have Character and Europa, Europa DVD's. I've seen both movies in the past, since I have lots of DVD's, I haven't had time to watch the DVD's yet, but will be soon. Sorry, I've never seen All the mornings of the world, but if you like Europa, Europa, its a safe bet, you like Character. I thought Character was on a par with Europa, Europa, both being very good movies.

I agree. Character was an intriguing drama and study of people and was always tense and suspenseful. It won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film a few years back.

I believe Character is the movie about a guy who lives in a town brought up by a mother in humble surroundings. He doesn't know who his father is. He discovers him in some way I have forgotten but it turns out he is the mayor, a big shot and a brute, rejects his son. Its very dark and depressing, very well acted. The Dutch make some remarkable films.
