Robert Kolker's book The Altering Eye is online now at
I thought some of you might be interested in it. It covers foreign cinema from the 50s to the 70s, with a heavy emphasis on neorealism and various new waves (France, Germany, Brazil, etc.). I think this is a pretty wonderful book, although it might not be all that informative if you're already familiar with the overall terrain. Still, it has my recommendation.
The author also wrote A Cinema of Loneliness, a book with which some of you might be familiar.
