YMDB

Your Movie Database is a site on which users submit their top 20 films. It is in sore need of enhancement, as it's awash with recent (often silly macho) Hollywood stuff and lists with a decent international range are a relative rarity. If it's dispiriting to realise a large number of users seem to believe films began in the last 10 years, the site does at least automatically create an affinity list of the 5 users with the most similar selection to your own, so you will come across some like-minded and intelligent individuals, from any country.

Not a substitute for these boards, of course, but i always like to see the best international films being highlighted and promoted!

I quite agree. The majority seem to rate Freddy Got Fingered rather more highly than Bergman or Tarkovsky, but let's not expect miracles. If anyone's interested to see how the thing works, my own list is here:

I found i'd commented on your list without knowing your identity here. Your #1 affinity guy used to frequent these boards. You're not Welsh, as well are you?

Hey, I'm a yank here, and what gets me mad is that when I try to get a European movie..primarily Czech ones..I have to search through tons of crappy american ones first..and then never find any good Czech ones..And when you go to rent a movie in the Czech Republic, it is 80% American movies..10% German movies, 8% other, and 2% Czech..about 10 movies..I would hate to blame my own country for replacing great foreign flicks..but to even think they would take a place away on a shelf for a classic to put a Tom Green movie there, just sickens me.

It's recently had problems with some redneck racists and troublemakers- i find it hard to understand why some users seem to get their main daily pleasure from filling boards with bile and hatred, trying to cause disruption, and it happens elsewhere too. But some extra deleting facilities promise better things.
