I was wondering what people thought of Whale Rider, or New Zealand films in general, since that's where I'm from.

I've seen Whale Rider twice and I'm taking my mother to see it this weekend with me. The climactic scene with the whales swimming thru the water with the girl on its back is transcendent.

Vincent Ward's Navigator was an extraordinary film, and I've been waiting a long, long time for a DVD edition that can do justice to its quality.

Something, let's say, like Criterion's job on Walkabout, Nicolas Roeg's australian masterpiece.
