I want to explore modern Korean Cinema. Where should I start? Name some good films and directors.

1. Ditto
2. Address Unknown (it has a different title in Korean)

Check out www.hkflix.com for some fairly comprehensive Korean listings

My recommendations

(1) JSA (Joint Security Area)
(2) Shiri
(3) Friends (for this film, it would be better if you understand the Korean dialects in the earlier days)

8)

Im Kwon-Taek is Korea's pre-eminent director. I'd recommend Sopyonje (1993), and the slightly older Sibaji (1987).
