I want to explore modern Korean Cinema. Where should I start? Name some good films and directors.

My recommendations

(1) JSA (Joint Security Area)
(2) Shiri
(3) Friends (for this film, it would be better if you understand the Korean dialects in the earlier days)

Im Kwon-Taek is Korea's pre-eminent director. I'd recommend Sopyonje (1993), and the slightly older Sibaji (1987).
