Hi everyone. I'm doing a project for school and am having a really hard time finding foreign (or domestic US) movies that update classic opera's to the movie screen. If anyone knows of films that have been based on an opera, could you please let me know? Thank you so much!

Carmen (directed by Rosi).

Carmen (Saura)- about a Spanish dance production of the opera.

Don Giovanni (Losey)

The Tales of Hoffmann (Powell, Pressburger).

Films that deal more obliquely, have opera as part of the subject, include ;

Diva (Beineix), Farewell my Concubine (Chen Kaige), Two Stage Sisters (Xie Jin)- the last 2 are set in Chinese stage opera/ singing-, Aria (various), Topsy Turvy (about Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera/operettas)..

The Magic Flute (Bergman).
