I have recently learnt that Tarkovsky's ANDRE RUBLEV is available with extra footage. The version I have is 3hrs long, the new one is longer. To those of you who have seen this extended version I ask: what are the deleted scenes of? Are they unused episodes?

I've only seen the extended version (205 mins) which is available on DVD from Criterion. From what I've heard, there aren't any new scenes in this version, only longer takes of excisting cuts. It is said that Tarkovsky himself preferred the 185 min cut of the film, so why Criterion calls the release "Director's Cut" is a mystery to me. However, the 205-minute version of this masterpiece is worth seeing nontheless, because of the extra images. I can't see how this film suffers from the lenght in any way... one of my absolute favourites! PS: The 185min cut is available on DVD from RusCiCo now.
