I can certainly understand that. Too bad - Do you know how long I'm carrying the certain Jess Franco-DVD with me, just in order to finally please you and Matalo Matango?

The Berlinale will be incredible. Little sleep, many films, many caffeine... And dozens of disappointments, I guess. "Fear X" knocked me out. I don't believe that I will ever feel so intimate, so pure and so pristine in the cinema this year. Somehow, this film lowered my interest in the Berlinale but after all, I can't regret it. I'm just a poor drug addict...

and I should work on my night-day rhythm.

Shame about the conditions of The Cremator, one of the best Czech films I've ever seen. Diary of the Dead hasn't even been released here, and I'm told it will be "limited". Is it officially out in Germany or did you get privileged access to some special screening?

Haven't you noticed the thread I opened for the Festival of Gérardmer? I spend the last weekend there together with two friends - this was my access to "Diary of the Dead" (I doubt that it'll be released theatrically here - it's a little, very "independent" film, in no way comparable to the quite costly "Land of the Dead") and "The Cremator" - that's why the latter was shown with French subtitles. We were extremely impressed by it and one of my friends immediately ordered the Second Run-DVD after we returned to Germany, so I'll be able to watch it with understandable subtitles very soon (after the Berlinale, I guess).

I'd love to read your post on "Fear X", did you like it? I think this film requires a personal opening from the viewer which goes a little but significant bit beyond the level that most films ask for - that's probably why it is a problem for many to get into it.

Btw, the bavarian comedy ("Tödliche Verbindungen") was quite enjoyable but there were no visitors for the pornographic cartoon though it was "Once upon a Girl" (1976) by Don Jurwich, the producer of "Scooby Doo" (the animated version) and "The Flintstones"!

I would have loved to have seen the two films, but fortunately I did manage to get some sleep. Almost 8 hours, and I woke up shortly before 9 in the morning. So my staying home was a success.

Besides The Cremator, I'm also pleased to see Buñuel being considered in such high regard. In its entirety, however, his "Mexican" work is relatively uneven. If there's a Los olvidados, then there's also a Gran Casino; if there's a El ángel exterminador, then we also have, by his standards, mediocrities like A Woman Without Love and The Brute. I think Susana is underrated, though, and I'm glad you liked it.

I also think his mexican work is uneven, but consider "Gran Casino" (1947) a highlight. I saw it from a pristine print, and it was an incredible experience. One of his films that left me completely satisfied after the screening, and also a personal favorite. Where have you seen it arsaib? I thought it was quite difficult to come by.
Damn, I should finalize my viewing log for February, but I forgot to write down the movies i watched after the Berlinale, and now I can't figure them out anymore.

Gran Casino is on DVD in the US, and I am also of the opinion that it is somewhat mediocre.
