Top 10 Westerns

Well I watched In Old Arizona earlier today, and man was it lame. Not necessarily terrible, but horribly dated and shoddy filmmaking. The bugs of sound were certainly not worked out yet. It did get me thinking however about other westerns, and better westerns. Since FF.com is becoming more Universal, and since my own personal favorite western is a foreign film, I figured why not voice our opinions on our favorite westerns. I hope everyone can come up with 10. Forgive me if I cheat on my #1.

1. The Man With No Name Trilogy (1964, 1965, 1966)
2. The Searchers (1956)
3. Dances With Wolves (1990)
4. The Wild Bunch (1969)
5. Once Upon a Time in the West (1968)
6. Unforgiven (1992)
7. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)
8. The Man From Laramie (1955)
9. Three Godfathers (1948)
10. Rio Bravo (1959)

A, your list is quite surprising, all the films are pretty recent for Westerns and not one John Ford film!

I'm not a great fan of them myself although I do enjoy the Dollars trilogy and High Noon, Dead Man is a quirky choice for number one though.

Cheers Trev.

Well El Topo is western enough by my count. Had you cheated like me, you could have squeezed another two films in there.

Ok, I'll put in El Topo
The three John Ford Westerns I've seen (Searchers, Iron Horse, Stagecoach) weren't as good as the westerns listed imo. You'll even notice, that John Ford isn't in my 100 favorite directors post, though I like him very much.
And I think the "Neo"-westerns made from the 60's on are the best ones. I'm not really a fan of genres.

I've been watching a lot of Westerns lately. I'm currently in love with the Anthony Mann/Jimmy Stewart Westerns.
