Haven't seen many of your favorites John. For example 10 out of 12 you listed for 1990. But of course I've heard of (almost) all of the films, and as usual I'll try to watch them in the future.
Am a bit surprised because Kiarostami's "Close Up" doesn't appear on your list...

I was a little more surprised by Basic Instinct, everyone knows Verhouven's masterpiece is Showgirls

Haven't seen Showgirls, yet, though I'm having some expectations due to the divided response , but it seems that quite many people consider Basic Instict to be a great film. I've seen it many times already, and I love the kinda "fairy-tale" coming together of the two people who somehow heal each other, and maybe become "normal" human beings again - If life was only as simple... I guess you can call me a romantic - or Verhoeven, who is very human under all the flashy cynicism.

I found nothing romantic about Basic Instinct, and Showgirls is just so bad its pretty funny. It has been awhile, but I've probably seen Showgirls a good 12 times or so.

Well, the story of "love conquers everything", you know. She doesn't kill him in the end.
