It'd be great if this list had years listed. I'm a little impressed that I've seen as much as I have, interesting list.

We could always add the years and touch up the names, if needed. I think it's a wonderful list. Counting my East German indulges, I'm probably right there with you.

I think it's a pretty good list, but a lot of it is comprised by well known movies that will always appear on a list that wants to be representative. What I mean is that there are many obvious choices, and a lot of quality cinema. Experimental films and more "commercial" films are sorely missing. Too bad I've only seen one third of the list. But "significant" is a difficult term to pin down. Significant for what? The influence on World Cinema, the influence on German films, box-office success, etc.

I'm not sure about mainstream, but you'll definitely come across the experimental kind once you get to a few more. I attempted to uncover the origins of the list but wasn't very successful (at least not in English).

What I meant with experimental cinema, were non-narrative avantgarde films. I know some of the listed titels contain experimental elements, and some even could be classified as avantgarde (e.g. "People on Sunday"), but I meant even more radical work. But maybe it isn't considered significant enough.

For Kluge, we have the wonderful Edition Filmmuseum DVDs. A lot of his films got released there recently. Maybe Criterion will pick some of those for future releases?

I saw that there was a boxed set released but it's unavailable here and I'm too broke to order an import. Maybe I can talk someone in Facet's ordering department to put in for it.

Facets is scheduled to release a Kluge set this year. I've only seen a couple from him so far, Brutality in Stone and Yesterday Girl (Anita G.), and both are pretty good.

Yesterday Girl is primarily the one to look for, I'll take anything.
