2. Napoleon - 1927 - Abel Gance
3. The Conformist - 1970 - Bernardo Bertolucci
4. The Grand Illusion - 1937 - Jean Renoir

7. Last Tango in Paris - 1972 - Bernardo Bertolucci
8. Au Hasard, Balthazar - 1966 - Robert Bresson
9. Children of Paradise - 1945 - Marcel Carne

I know I forgot plenty, but post your own list so I can smack my head against the wall.

Sadly I've never seen the Mother and the Whore, I'm patiently waiting some official DVD release, but who knows. I'll admit my knowledge of recent French films is pretty weak as well, but that's the fun of making a list now, to see how much it can change.

Usually I don't buy DVD's as I don't have the money for it, but if the two Eustache films ever get released I will be the first one to buy

Oh, this is very difficult......but it always is.

1. Jeux interdits (Clement) -1952
2. La Fete a Henriette (Duvivier) -1952
3. Pattes blanches (Gremillon) -1949
4. La Belle captive (Robbe-Grillet) -1983
5. Mon oncle d'Amerique (Resnais) -1980
6. Helas pour moi (Godard) -1993
7. Le Voyage en ballon (Lamorrise) -1960
8. Les Dimanches de Ville d'Avray (Bourguignon) -1962
9. Le Million (Clair) -1931
10. Un chant d'amour (Genet) -1950

And just missed;

La Ronde (Ophuls), Playtime (Tati), Hiroshima mon amour (Resnais), Le Pont du Nord (Rivette), Casque d'or (Becker), Le Jour se leve (Carne), Therese (Cavalier), L'argent (Bresson), La Morte vivante (Rollin), Nettoyage a sec (Fontaine), Le Roi et l'oiseau (Grimault), L'Arbre, le maire et la mediatheque (Rohmer), Max mon amour (Oshima), Testament d'Orphee (Cocteau), Salle de bain (Lvoff), Sans soleil (Marker), Tante Zita (Enrico), Le Bonheur (Varda), Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (Demy), Baxter (Boivin), Bernie (Dupontel)......etc.

But all these films were just good in my memory, so once I saw them again, I may change my opinion for it....

Interesting list andre. Haven't seen any of those.
So there's still lots to discover in french cinema for me, especially, since I've found out this week, that french cinema has become my favorite, putting Japan now on second rank.

"Godard once said: "French cinema is Bresson"

He's certainly got an eye for the obvious.

Andre's list is the most baffling to me, although I'm not completely ignorant of it, having seen about two films, go me. As for Bresson, well how can you not love his work?
