Birth was one of my favorites of 2004. Good deal!

2 middlebrow French films for me:

The Pleasure is all mine and Mademoiselle (with Sandrine Bonnarie who I love)

Ten Minutes Older - The Cello (collection of shorts)

Don't know if you've seen Love, but it is a fantastic film, one of the best Hungarian movies I've seen.

More noir for me.

House on 92nd Street (1945)
The Dark Corner (1947)
Where the Sidwalk Ends (1950)

No, I haven't seen the Makk film yet. But I hope to see/comment on it soon.

For Christmas,

Landscape in the Mist
Forever Mozart
Moment of Innocence
Point of Order
Signs of Life

Notice a trend? In case you didn't they're all New Yorker releases, I guess enough subtle hinting can pay off.

Also got my Scorsese collection (near) complete with Kundun and Bringing Out the Dead.

I'm surprised that you've only just got "Weekend" on dvd wpqx, did you have it on video?

I ask because your review of the film is written with a great deal of knowlege and eloquence.

My latest aquisitions, Vertigo, Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down, The Consequences of Love and Wallace & Gromit, 3 Cracking Adventures.

After seeing Serenity recently, my eldest son has bought the "Firefly" box set which I'm looking forward to seeing.

Cheers Trev.

Firefly is brilliant in terms of character development, let me know what you think of the series, but give it a fair chance. I would certainly recommend seeing Serenity again after the series.

I had seen Weekend 3 times on video before, but as the DVD was just released a few months before Christmas I figured I could be patient enough.

Thanks for the Oliveira info. The absolute highlight of my time in Portugal this Summer (among many wonderful memories)was the day in the Douro valley, setting for Abraham Valley, so i look forward especially to his Douro/Oporto film. If anyone's seen Voyage to the Beginning of the World, well that starts off where we stayed and almost bought a house- by the sea next to the Spanish border. Beautiful!

Great to be back able to buy online, so have now bought several i'd been wanting for a while but didn't think were available back in May, off

Landscape in the Mist
4 films by Iosseliani (really looking forward to this, includes Singing Blackbird, Fall of Leaves, Pastoral)
Mughal-e-Azam (Indian classic)
Hour of the Star
1900 (Australian copy)
The Cow (Mehrjui)

i see Brazilian classic Barren Lives is due out in Jan.

And i think i'll go over to Yesasia for The Wayward Cloud.
