DVD query ... whoever can help answer ... thanks ...

Postby hengcs » Thu Jul 26, 2007 9:02 am

hi to all ...

(1) Renaissance

hey arsaib4, trevor, etc ...

do u know of any version that has FRENCH dialogue, but English subtitles?!
I think the 2 French version has no English subtitles,
and I think the UK and US version are both dubbed WITHOUT the original French track ...

please advise ...

(2) Obaba

i think arsaib4 or whoever has watched it, on DVD or theatre?

although i understand that the TIME can differ for diff region DVDs, I am concerned abt unnecessary edits ...

Do you know if the 93 min US version is heavily edited?!
Isnt it supposed to be 100 min?!

(3) Indignes

The US version is only 119 min
Is the French version the 128 min?
Does the French version has English subtitles?

Re: Rennaisance, despite being french, the film was animated to fit english voices and I had no idea there was a french language version, I'd imagine a french dvd could have the audio dubbed into french along with the original english soundtrack with french subtitles.

This is a rare case where the english track is fine on a french film simply because that was the original intention of the director.

I know it's not the answer you're looking for but I think your search is unnecessary in this instance.

Cheers Trev.

Haven't seen any of the films, but I tried to find out about Indignes. I couldn't find a french DVD. Are you sure it has already been released hengcs?

hi hengcs,

(1)Renaissance

I've confirmed from various sources that the Miramax (U.S.) release does include a French language track. I wish I had the DVD myself. For the record: no subs on the French DVD.

3) Indignes

Again, the French DVD isn't subtitled. And yes, it is said to be 128 mins. Are you sure that the U.S. version is 119?

Will try to find out about Obaba.

DVDBeaver has it at 123 min. Apparently, an animated short film by the director is also included on the disc.

Re: Renaissance, the R2 release from Pathe includes a stills gallery, the short film Maaz (1999) and a making of doc. After watching the making of, I must admit that I'd rather see the film in french, several scenes were included that had the french dub and they did sound better for it.

Cheers Trev.

Hopefully I'm right to ask here for the british DVD of Luchino Viscontis "L'Innocente / The Innocent" by Nouveaux Pictures. Has anyone seen it? I couldn't find a review and of course, I don't want to buy the cat in the sack.

"This DVD has almost every fault that is listed on [DVDBeaver's production rules page]. It's not anamorphic, the subtitles are forced, it has no extras (12 photos), and the sound is horrible!" (DVDBeaver).

Go for it!
