What do you think of Nikita Mikhalkov's films besides Burnt by the Sun? He's had quite a career.

Well, i've only seen some of his films, but apart from BBTS (probably his best) i was also impressed by Unfinished Piece for Player Piano (beautifully filmed), Dark Eyes (lyrical, whimsical and wistfully romantic version of Chekhov's Lady with a Little Dog), and to a lesser extent Urga (European film of the Year, set on the Mongolian steppes). I've not seen Slave of Love, which i understand is excellent.

My favorite of his is also Burnt by the Sun, although Oblomov and Unfinished Piece for Mechanical Piano are close behind. A Slave of Love is very good, but I don't like it quite as much as those first three. Same goes for Dark Eyes.

How do you think Dark Eyes compares to Unfinished Piece?
