ha ha ... thnks for the encouragement
likewise, justin emailed me to praise the new style too ... hee hee
actually, i did write in paras before
click 4.30 (2005)
(i) essay vs point form
the reasons why i wrote in essay form for that film were
-- i wanted to support local films and i think i was among the first few to write an analysis of it (not just synopsis)
-- maybe if foreign distributors chanced upon this website, they might want to help local films
the reasons why i have not written in essay since then were
-- it is less time consuming to write, and it is faster to read ... hee hee
-- also, sometimes, there are 1 or 2 points I really want to comment on that would not be in sync with the coherence of the entire essay ... so, to include them, I chose to write in points
BUT since most of you prefer essay, I will try to do so ...
it is kind of difficult at times, let me explain ...
-- if you use a 5 point scale (which is good and simple)
all the 3.5 in SIFF ratings may not exactly reflect my sentiments about the film ...
some are nearer the high end of 3.5, some are nearer the low end
-- however, if you use a 10 point scale (which is more refined)
sometimes it gets difficult to accurately rate them as 6.5, 7, 7.5 etc
who knows, on second watch, my rating may change
-- more importantly, there are some films that may boast of numerous good points, hence deserving a watch. BUT often, a poor rating does not accurately reflect my occasional sentiments that the film still deserve a watch. hence, i would rather not get into that predicament ... ha ha
PS: I wrote essay for SIFF films to be in sync with justin's and John Li's style ...
