Many moons ago I was awestruck by Yol. Would love that Turkish film to have a dvd release.

zzzooom is right to recommend Yol - alternately beautiful, harrowing and politically challenging look at four prisoners on parole release returning to their homes in different parts of Turkey. I understand The Herd (Okten), and Hope are other classics, also A Season in Hakkari, Motherland Hotel, Dry Summer. Availability in Britain at least is virtually non-existent. Another i saw -officially Swiss-, which won the Oscar for 1990 is Journey of Hope, about refugees making their way to Switzerland from Turkey; no masterpiece but involving and definitely worth seeing.
