Outlaw Black Deering (William S. Hart, one of the first silent-film cowboy stars) decides to give up the bandit life after pulling off one last job. But when his henchman (Joseph Singleton) betrays the gang, Deering is captured. After escaping, Deering sets out for revenge but has second thoughts when he meets an abandoned woman and her child. Also included is the Mack Sennett short His Bitter Pill, which mocks Hart's stoic Western persona.
