Well-known publisher and literary critic Pierre Lachenay (Jean Desailly) becomes infatuated with strikingly beautiful flight attendant Nicole (Françoise Dorleac), with whom he keeps crossing paths as he travels to speaking engagements. Despite his status as a happily married father of one, Lachenay begins a doomed love affair with Nicole, careful to avoid all his familiar haunts for fear of getting caught. François Truffaut directs.
