Working man Tom Curtis (Richard Attenborough) is just an average Joe who puts in time at a factory. When his co-worker Travers (Alfred Burke) begins rabble-rousing about conditions at the plant, causing dissension in the ranks, Tom is suspicious of Travers and his methods. After a wildcat strike in which Tom refuses to participate, he's vilified by his fellow workers … and even his own wife (Pier Angeli).
