Robert Curtis (Fred Astaire) always ends up as the clean-up guy for his boss, Broadway producer Martin Cortland (Robert Benchley). A liar and a cheat, Martin's caught by his wife while flirting with a dancer, Sheila (Rita Hayworth) -- so Robert covers for Martin. But he bites off more than he can chew when he's mistaken for a louse by Sheila's brother. To get the guy off his back, Robert joins the army, where he runs into the irate sibling once again.
