Neil Diamond adds his distinctive sounds to the role of Yussel, a young Jewish cantor on the verge of a dream in this remake of Al Jolson's 1927 film. Yussel (Diamond) forsakes the synagogue choir for a chance at rock superstardom. Defying his father (Laurence Olivier), he turns his back on his marriage and community to team up with his new manager (Lucie Arnaz) and shoots straight to the top. But will the pressures of show business destroy him?
