Fresh from a successful London gig, singer Melinda Howard (Doris Day) returns home to visit her mother (Gladys George), a former Broadway star who's hit the skids. But thanks to the manipulations of a caring millionaire producer (S.Z. Sakall), Melinda is kept in the dark about mom's decline.
