David Jones directs this powerful television adaptation of John Osborne's 1956 provocative play in which bitter and unfulfilled Jimmy Porter (Kenneth Branagh) showers wife Alison (Emma Thompson), mistress Helena (Siobhan Redmond) and business partner Cliff (Gerard Horan) with his frustrations. He excuses his verbal cruelty by claiming he's enlivening people, but everyone both hates to love and loves to hate him.
