Convinced that her husband, Ronnie (Bruce Spence), has abandoned her, Wendy (Rosanna Arquette) seeks sanctuary in the pages of romance novels, where she meets the perfect man (played by Hugo Weaving). The only problem is, he isn't real -- but that doesn't prevent Wendy from bringing him into her life. Meanwhile, somewhere in the Australian outback, Ronnie is buying a diner that he plans to run with Wendy.
