After his car breaks down in the countryside, successful screenwriter Amitabha Roy (Soumitra Chatterjee) is invited by local tea planter Bimal Gupta to stay the night. In a surprising coincidence, Gupta's wife turns out to be Roy's former flame, whom he abandoned out of cowardice. His feelings rekindled, Roy begs her to run away with him. Can he find the happiness he sacrificed so many years ago? Or will he be the brokenhearted this time?
