Covetous slacker Konrad (Michael York) is a handsome raconteur who charms his way into a position as butler in the household of bankrupt Countess von Ornstein (Angela Lansbury). Intent on restoring wealth to the home, Konrad creates a complex romantic triad involving himself, the countess's son and the daughter of a wealthy businessman.
