When Geneviève (Brigitte Bardot) rescues a man, Renaud (Robert Hossein), about to die from an overdose of sleeping pills, the traumatic incident binds them together, and Geneviève stays at Renaud's side, even when he heaps abuse on her in every way imaginable. Jean-Marc Bory and Michel Serrault co-star in this adaptation of the Christiane Rochefort novel, written and directed by Bardot's ex-husband Roger Vadim.
