In 18th-century Japan, apprentice courtesan Kiyoha (portrayed by Japanese pop superstar Anna Tsuchiya) works in a brothel in the fashionable Yoshiwara district. Determined to gain her independence, Kiyoha refuses to be bought by a wealthy man.
