Recounting the last years of China's Ching Dynasty through flashbacks and fast-forwards, this drama from director Bernardo Bertolucci collected nine Oscars. The lavish epic charts the transformation of Pu Yi (John Lone) -- who ascended the throne at age 3 -- from coddled aristocrat to enlightened insurgent to ordinary citizen. With the help of his Scottish tutor (Peter O'Toole), the young emperor learns about the world outside the palace walls.
