Father to a gaggle of daughters but no sons, Sabbatai Alfandari (Shaike Ophir) turns to outlandish folk remedies to ensure that his -- and his wife's -- fertile loins bring him a desperately wanted male child. But when the treatments only result in another girl, Sabbatai must face his own misconceptions about what it means to be a father, a husband and a man. The film was nominated for the Golden Palm at Cannes in 1974.
