Charles Dance has the title role in this made-for-TV adaptation of the classic tale, based on a stage version by noted playwright Arthur Kopit. A masked phantom terrorizes the Paris Opera House and sets his sights on a beautiful young singer (Teri Polo). The differences in this revision include Burt Lancaster (in one of his last roles) as the Phantom's sympathetic father. Tony Richardson (of Tom Jones fame) directs.
