Hugh Jackman

Born Oct. 12, 1968, in Sydney, Australia, Hugh Jackman is the youngest among five children. He attended the University of Technology in Sydney, graduating with a communications degree and then studying drama at the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts.

Jackman got his first acting break when he landed the lead in the Aussie TV series "Corelli." More television roles followed, along with stage work in "Sunset Boulevard" and "Beauty and the Beast." Jackman became an overnight star after joining the cast of X-Men (2000), portraying superhero Wolverine opposite Patrick Stewart. Jackman reprised the role in two successful sequels, X2: X-Men United (2003) and X-Men: The Last Stand (2006).

For his performance in 2001's Kate & Leopold, Jackman earned a Golden Globe nod, and he won the 2004 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical playing entertainer Peter Allen in "The Boy from Oz."
