Suzanne Pleshette

An accomplished actress of the stage, screen and television whose throaty voice set her apart from other leading ladies of her day, Suzanne Pleshette was born in New York City on Jan. 31, 1937. Although her resume is long and varied, she's most often remembered for her Emmy-nominated role as Bob Newhart's wife on "The Bob Newhart Show" (1972-78).

Pleshette's most notable films include Rome Adventure (1962), in which she starred opposite her future husband -- teen idol Troy Donahue -- and Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds (1963). She also replaced Anne Bancroft on Broadway in the acclaimed drama "The Miracle Worker" (1961).

Later in life, Pleshette received another Emmy nod for her portrayal of infamous hotel magnate Leona Helmsley in the made-for-television movie Leona Helmsley: The Queen of Mean (1990). She died on Jan. 19, 2008, at the age of 70.
