Laura Linney

Juilliard graduate Laura Linney was born Feb. 5, 1964, in New York City. She landed on the big screen in 1992 with a small part in Lorenzo's Oil. A year later, she took on the character of naïve Mary Ann Singleton in a PBS adaptation of "Tales of the City."

Linney's popularity grew with strong supporting turns in Absolute Power (1997) and The Truman Show (1998), and she solidified her star status with a Best Actress Oscar nod for You Can Count on Me (2000). After taking time out to topline the stage play "The Crucible" (for which she won a Tony), Linney returned to films and racked up Academy Award nominations for her roles in Kinsey (2004) and The Savages (2007).

On the small screen, Linney won her first Emmy for the TV movie Wild Iris (2001) and took home another statuette -- along with a Golden Globe -- for her role as Abigail Adams in the HBO miniseries "John Adams" (2008). In 2011, Linney won a Golden Globe for the Showtime series "The Big C."
