Matthew Perry

Better known to many as the sarcastic Chandler Bing on TV's long-running "Friends," Matthew Perry was born Aug. 19, 1969, in Williamstown, Mass. Raised in Canada, Perry moved to Los Angeles during his high school years to live with his father, actor John Bennett Perry.

A nationally ranked junior tennis player as well as a budding thespian, Perry planned to pursue tennis and acting careers, but a demoralizing 1984 loss at the net convinced him otherwise.

After making his film debut opposite River Phoenix in A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon (1988), Perry guest-starred on shows such as "Beverly Hills 90210" before being cast on "Friends." While still working on the series, Perry made a number of movies, including The Whole Nine Yards (opposite Bruce Willis). He received Emmy nods for his roles in "Friends" and "The West Wing," and Emmy and Golden Globe recognition for The Ron Clark Story (2006).
