Tom Selleck

Born Jan. 29, 1945, in Detroit, Tom Selleck is best known for his work as the happy-go-lucky, Hawaiian shirt-wearing, hunky private investigator Thomas Magnum in the long-running 1980s television series "Magnum P.I.," a role that earned him numerous accolades, including an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

As "Magnum" wound to a close, Selleck made the move to the silver screen, most notably in the 1987 hit Three Men and a Baby, and picked up starring roles in other films such as Quigley Down Under (1990) and The Love Letter (1999).

In the '90s, Selleck was cast as the on-again, off-again boyfriend of Monica in the TV sitcom smash "Friends," a recurring role that garnered him an Emmy nomination and a whole new slew of fans. In 2007, he was nominated for another Emmy for his portrayal of boozy police chief Jesse Stone in the TV movie Jesse Stone: Sea Change.
